Summer Orientation Begins Today!!!

The day is finally here!!!  Today is the first New Student Orientation of the Summer.  Hundreds of new lumberjacks will embark on campus to learn about everything SFA has to offer.  SFA Panhellenic will also be hosting an educational session this afternoon to talk about all of the benefits of being a Panhellenic woman as well as answer any questions about recruitment!!

Come by and see us this afternoon at the BPSC Movie Theater at either 4:40 p.m. or 5:05 p.m. to learn all about SFA Panhellenic.  We can't wait to see you!!

Zeta Tau Alpha Sisterhood

Sisterhood has so many definitions, for Zeta Tau Alpha’s hearing the word sisterhood is not only the unique bond and relationship we all share it also means a fun and amazing event for us to all hang out and forget about our responsibilities for a few hours! In ZTA our amazing and creative sisterhood chair plans several sisterhoods each month. These sisterhoods range from  coffee sisterhoods where we enjoyed Starbucks and donuts at the ZTA house to relax before finals week, to the paint war that was held in our backyard which meant getting a little dirty and enjoying crawfish, we also had an 80’s themed skating sisterhood at the local skating rink, and lastly my favorite sisterhood from this past year was our Zip-Lining sisterhood! This was such a fun way to bond by doing something that was adventurous and exciting! We all had so much fun Zip-lining through the beautiful trees of Nacogdoches and spending time together doing something out of the norm!

Our sisterhood events are something that I think makes Zeta Tau Alpha unique, we have so many different sisterhoods that everyone can enjoy and it is just a great time for all of us to unwind and forget about our school work, jobs, and other responsibilities and just relax and enjoy our time together doing something fun and usually unforgettable. But not only are our sisterhoods planned every few weeks, my other favorite type of sisterhoods are the unplanned ones. Just spending time with sisters sitting around the living room playing boardgames or just talking are some of the best memories I have with my sisters!

Tri Delta Sisterhood

Any TriDelta you meet will say that one of the main reasons they chose TriDelta is for the sisterhood and close bonds that are hard to find any where else. We have countless sisterhoods throughout each semester which gives us the opportunity to spend time with our closest friends. All of us would agree that some of the best sisterhoods we have are the ones that go unplanned. One of my favorite sisterhoods that TriDelta did last year was a Tie Dye Sisterhood. Not only did everyone get to tie-dye their own tank, but there were even lessons on how to tie-dye so everyone could participate, even if they weren't the craftiest girls in the world! The reason this sisterhood stuck out to me is because I got to do something I love while spending the day on our beautiful back porch with the girls that mean the most to me! Plus, who doesn't love another tank to add to the collection? I love Tri Delta because no matter where we are and what we are doing, we have fun.

Chi Omega Sisterhood

Sisterhood means so much more than anyone understands. Of course we have our planned events like Secret Santa or Slip and Slide sisterhoods, but there is just so much more to it. My favorite sisterhood this past year was the Ice Cream social in the fall. Almost everyone showed up in the midst of their busy schedules to just lounge around the house, eat ice cream, and talk for hours. Even after the ice cream was gone, sisters were there talking until dark.

Sisterhoods don't have to be fancy and exciting, though they sometimes are, but they need to be valuable time spent with each other. A sisterhood to me is a road trip with 20 sisters to the river, going to the movie theater with my pledge class, or even a massive sleepover at the Chi O house to watch Frozen, Pitch Perfect, and Bridesmaids for the millionth time. And of course to listen to Annie recite every line from the movie.

Sisterhood is growing and nurturing relationships with the women that make your college experience memorable.

Alpha Chi Omega Sisterhood

Three years ago when I was choosing a sorority, sisterhood was something that was a very important deciding factor for me. I knew that I needed to choose a house based on where I could see myself not only then, but for the next four years of my life. Something that stood out to me about Alpha Chi Omega was the importance of tradition. From the Grease Skit on day two of recruitment to their initiation ceremony, everything was so special to each of the members. Destination Unknown is a sisterhood event specific to Alpha Chi and is one of my personal favorite Alpha Chi Omega traditions. The VP Membership Programming plans a secret trip to somewhere outside of Nacogdoches each semester and it is always a great time. The rest of the chapter is given clues and an items-to-bring list and we try to guess where exactly we are going. This year we took charter buses to Arlington for the Texas Rangers versus the Houston Astros baseball game and had an amazing time! The game was an Alpha Chi Omega take-over as we all sat together and enjoyed all you can eat food and drinks for the entire afternoon. It was definitely a day to remember and I speak for all Alpha Chi’s when I say that we are already so excited for whatever trip we take next semester!

Brittany James:  President of Delta Delta Delta

I am Brittany James, the current president of Delta Delta Delta at Stephen F. Austin State University. I am from Livingston, Texas, and I am happy to say I will be starting my second semester of nursing school in the fall! I am so excited you plan on going through recruitment; it was the best decision I could have made, and I hope you will feel the same way! Being Greek has made my college experience more enjoyable, and I have met some great women that will continue to impact my life long after college years are over. 

Going through recruitment was an exciting and overwhelming experience all at the same time. I wasn’t sure how I was going to choose a sorority of women who would become my sisters for the next 4 years in just three short days. I really had to sit down at the end of each day and figure out what qualities were important to me in the sorority I would choose to join. I wanted the sorority to have genuine women who would always stand by me, who would hold me to higher standards and keep me accounted for, who would teach me how to be a stronger leader, and who I could call my best friends at the end of every day. I found my idea of a perfect sorority in Delta Delta Delta, and I have loved every minute of it! 

Being a Tri Delta has brought out the best in me, and I have learned so much about myself. I have accomplished things in college that never would have happened without the support and confidence my sisters have given me. I hope that you find what I have found in Delta Delta Delta through Panhellenic Recruitment. I look forward to meeting you all in the fall, and I hope you find your perfect home away from home like I did!

Rachelle Greene: President of Delta Zeta

Hi Ladies! I’m Rachelle Greene and it is my honor to serve as Delta Zeta’s President. I graduated from a small high school in San Antonio, TX but being a military kid, I grew up all over the world. This fall will be my senior year at SFA and I plan to earn my degree with a major in Spanish and a minor in Biology.

I chose Delta Zeta three short years ago because I felt I had found my home away from home. Before I understood their philanthropy and drive for high academics; before I was exposed to their leadership opportunities and social endeavors, it was their genuine sisterhood and class that left a lasting impression on me. Through Delta Zeta I have met the most intelligent and inspiring women. Together we have an incredible bond and comprise great unity and as individuals we are unique, creative, hardworking and original. The Delta Zeta’s whom I call sisters have such a confidence in themselves and a passion for bettering the community. My sisters have helped me reach my greatest potential by realizing my strengths and developing my both my professional and social skills. I cannot have imagined of a better college experience.

I’m excited to open our home and meet all of you this fall. For now, have a great summer and Axe em Jacks! DZLAM!

Brooke Werner: President of Zeta Tau Alpha

Hello Future Greek Women!

My name is Brooke Werner and I am currently chapter president of Zeta Tau Alpha. I am also a senior Elementary Education major here at SFA! When I am not in Nacogdoches I call College Station, Texas home. I am so excited that you have decided to go greek, joining Zeta Tau Alpha was one of the best decisions I made while in college.

Being apart of a sorority is so much more than most people understand before joining one. When I first chose to go through recruitment I was unsure what to expect or what exactly I would receive from it. When I first walked into the Zeta Tau Alpha House I could instantly see the sisterhood and I felt right at home. Zeta Tau Alpha’s strive to intensify friendship and create a lifelong bond all while being leaders on and off campus, participating in service projects, and together we ‘Seek the Noblest’. Being apart of Zeta has forever changed my life, I’ve experienced and even traveled to places I never would have if it were not for Zeta Tau Alpha.

I can speak for myself and all of my sisters when I say we are so excited you are going through recruitment! I cannot wait to meet you all and I hope that through recruitment you are able to find your home away from home at SFA and find the sisterhood that I found within Zeta Tau Alpha!

Annie Nicklas: President of Chi Omega 

Hello! I'm Annie Nicklas, a senior nursing student and president of Chi Omega here at SFASU. I am thrilled for you to begin your college journey by going though Panhellenic Recruitment! Chi Omega was the first house I walked into during recruitment, and has been changing my life ever since. I knew immediately that Chi Omega was for me because the girls were so genuine an made me feel as though I truly belonged. I am so blessed to have such an amazing support system of sisters behind me as I travel through my college experience. Chi Omega has challenged me to be a better person and to hold myself to a higher standard. From sisterhoods to socials to philanthropy, Chi Omega helped me form friendships that I know will last a lifetime. Hi ladies! My name is Maddi Rees and I am currently serving as chapter president for Alpha Chi Omega. I am a senior Elementary Education major from Frisco, Texas, and I am so excited for you to make the best decision of your life by going Greek! When I went through recruitment in Fall 2011 I had no idea what I was in for, but joining Alpha Chi Omega has been the most amazing experience I could have ever asked for. I chose Alpha Chi because anytime I met a sister I knew that she was a classy, genuine, real, strong woman with high standards, a strong sense of self, and a spirit that always shines bright. When I walked into the beautiful Alpha Chi mansion I knew that I had found my home, and could not wait to be constantly surrounded by sisters who loved and accepted me no matter what. To this day I know that I made the best decision possible. Alpha Chi has made me a better person, and I've made friendships here that will last a lifetime with sisters who are always there to cry with me through the bad times and laugh with me during the good.
